Ho Chi Minh City is the hardest hit area of this wave of local epidemics. So far, more than 45,000 people have been diagnosed. Although the lockdown measures have been on the road for two weeks, thousands of people have been infected every day in recent days. It is worth noting that the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control warned that the epidemic in Ho Chi Minh City has not yet reached its peak.
The COVID-19 epidemic broke out in Vietnam in January last year. So far, nearly 75,000 people have been diagnosed and 370 people have died across the country. Vietnam’s vaccine coverage rate is extremely low, only about 4%. Only 4.04 million people of the country’s 98 million people received the first dose of the vaccine, and more than 320,000 people received the second dose.
Le Thi Thu Hang, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, stated at a regular press conference that the 3 million doses of Moderna vaccine donated by the United States to Vietnam through COVAX will arrive. Prior to this, the United States had sent 2 million doses of Modena to Vietnam.
She also mentioned that Vietnam is discussing with the United States to produce mRNA vaccines in Vietnam, and it is expected to start production in the fourth quarter of this year or the first quarter of next year. The annual output of this part can reach 100 million to 200 million doses.
