In response to WHO Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus’s call for rich countries to suspend the promotion of additional Covid-19 vaccines, the US government rejected this call.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called earlier that high-income countries such as the United States should postpone the additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine until more poor countries can vaccinate their citizens and more people around the world can get the vaccine.
In response, White House spokesperson Jen Psaki told reporters: “We absolutely think this is the wrong choice, and we can go both ways.”
Jen Psaki also pointed out that the United States has enough vaccine supplies to continue to distribute vaccines abroad while ensuring that every American is fully vaccinated.
