The COVID-19 continues to raging around the world. Scientists discovered a new variant virus “Mu” (B.1.621) in Colombia in January this year. It is known to be present in at least 26 countries/regions. The World Health Organization (WHO) ) announced on August 30 that it was listed as a “Variant of Interest”, and continued monitoring and research.
The report shows that it has a series of mutations and has the potential of immune escape, which may weaken the effectiveness of existing vaccines, but this part still needs more research and verification.
In addition to Mu, there are Eta (discovered in the UK), Iota (discovered in New York, USA), Kappa (discovered in India), and Lambda (discovered in Peru).
