A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 struck off the coast of Alaska, triggering a tsunami warning. The National Weather Service warned Kodiak Island and the Alaska Peninsula areas.
The earthquake occurred at 10:48 p.m., about 55 miles southwest of Sand Point. Unalaska, located approximately 80 miles southwest of the advisory zone, is not currently under evacuation orders. The U.S. Tsunami Warning System downgraded the warning to an advisory for the eastern Aleutian Islands and Kodiak. Sand Point remains under advisory, while Kodiak has received an “all clear.”
