South Korea’s Central Anti-epidemic Countermeasures Headquarters reported that as of midnight today, 6,919 new cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the country. The number of severe cases exceeded 1,000 for 3 consecutive days, reaching 1,083 cases, and the number of deaths in a single day hit a new high of 109 cases.
However, the anti-epidemic authorities said today that judging from the number of newly diagnosed cases, the epidemic has slowed down significantly. This may be due to the increase in the number of additional doses and the start of social distancing regulations.
The proportion of diagnosed cases in the elderly over 60 years old has also begun to decline. It is estimated that the number of severe cases and the number of deaths will begin to decline next week.
The South Korean authorities have restricted the number of private parties to a maximum of 4 people since the 18th, and restaurants, coffee shops, and other business places are open until 9:00 pm at the latest.
The utilization rate of hospital beds, which was once faced with tightness, also showed a trend of remission, dropping to 79.1% from 81.4% on the 16th a week ago. The number of patients still waiting for hospital beds also dropped from 771 to 243.
