The Omicron epidemic has spread rapidly in South Korea. The number of confirmed cases and the number of severe cases and deaths has increased rapidly. On the 16th, 621,328 new cases were added throughout the day. Only 62 cases were imported from abroad. The number of confirmed cases in the densely populated metropolitan area has reached 343,322 cases.
The number of deaths originally maintained at around 100 to 200, also surged to 429, almost doubling the previous record, with patients over the age of 80 being the largest. The cumulative number of deaths reached 11,481, with a mortality rate of 0.14%.
The South Korean authorities, which are considering further relaxation of epidemic prevention regulations, explained that the sharp increase in the number of confirmed cases in a single day was mainly due to the expansion of cluster inspection standards and the number of cases that were not counted in the previous day. Many experts have raised objections after the recent peak of the epidemic, which may put the authorities in the dilemma of people’s livelihood and epidemic prevention again.
Countries are working hard to open their borders. Cambodia has lifted the requirement that passengers must present a negative PCR certificate 72 hours before arrival, but passengers must still be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Passengers who have not been fully vaccinated and have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 are still required to quarantine in designated places for 14 days. Although negative certificates are no longer required, the Cambodian Ministry of Health encourages travelers to self-screen to make sure they are free of the virus.
Cambodia has a population of about 16 million, and the vaccine coverage rate in Cambodia is 92.31%.
